I’ve been using Bluehost web hosting for a couple of my sites throughout 2016-2020. In this Bluehost Review, I’ll be going through what this web host has to offer and my thoughts on if it’s any good.

All Bluehost plans offer their customers many benefits when compared to their competitors. 24/7 live chat, unmetered bandwidth, and five e-mail accounts, and even a free domain for the first year. Plans can start from as low as $3.95 per month and include a free SSL certificate, backups, and improved security. Bluehost manages much of the backend processes of your website so that your blog is protected and safe.

This web host boasts a 99.99% uptime which is crucial for small businesses that need to always be available. In this Bluehost review, we’ll go over both the Pros and Cons of Bluehost webhosting.

Pros of Bluehost Webhosting

When your website is down, your users can’t access it. If they can’t access it, then you won’t make any money. Uptime is one of the most important aspects you should look at when choosing a web host provider. If you go with an unknown web host provider you are taking a big risk with them. Bluehost is a well-known and established web host brand that’s top-rated. They aren’t going anywhere soon!

Great Loading Speed

According to a study from Google, that vast majority of mobile websites are pretty darn slow. This is a huge problem because Google’s mobile first-index can either elevate or hide your website in its search results based on your loading speeds. If you have a slow website, it will translate into lower sales as most users click on websites that show up on the first page of search results. In fact, the first page of results receives about 95% of web traffic. So you’ll want a reliable host provider solution like Bluehost.

If you’d like to test your website loading speed, there are great tools out there to test it. One tool that I’d like to recommend is GT Metrix.

Bluehost Review: Utilize GTmetrix to help improve your website load times. This will help improve your SEO to rank higher in search results.

Low Introductory Pricing ($3.95/month)

The lowest advertised price for Bluehost is $3.95 a month. It’s a great deal when you take into account that the normal pricing is $7.99 a month. For that price you get a great deal. 50GB of SSD storage, a free SSL certificate, unmetered bandwidth, outstanding tech support, and more.

Not only that, but you also get consistent uptime and fast page loading speeds as mentioned earlier. So Bluehost is a great deal if you’re looking for a new web host that’s affordable.

Outstanding Security Options

Bluehost is one of the cheaper options on the market but it doesn’t skimp on the features that you need. One of the most important features being security.

By default, you’ll get a free SSL certificate for each plan. This is important because if you have anyone filling out forms on your site, you’ll want that information to be secure as its transmitted. This is especially important for those of you that have e-commerce websites. We don’t want credit card numbers and the personal information of our users floating about! So having SSL is a great feature that’s provided by default.

Another feature that’s provided is a domain privacy feature that will help to keep the personal information you used to sign up for a domain absolutely private. This helps to prevent hackers from finding and using your personal details for phishing schemes. Many of these schemes try to trick you or others into handing over sensitive information.

WordPress is a commonly used content management platform and constitutes about 35% of all websites. Unfortunately, this makes it a big target for hackers and malware attacks. Bluehost, however, has you covered. Sitelock is a service that’s included to prevent malware attacks. CodeGuard is another layer of protection that’s provided which provides daily backups so that you can rollback your website to a previous version if it does get hacked. Lastly, Postini is a security tool that helps to provide spam protection for your e-mail. It ensures that SPAM and any other suspicious emails are prevented from reaching your primary inbox. All of these security features help to distinguish Bluehost from its competitors as they take the guesswork out of website security.

Integrations, Applications, and eCommerce Features

Bluehost not only provides outstanding security features, but they also provide access to a large number of different applications and integrations so that you can take full advantage of the most popular services available for your website.

You can install WordPress with a single click or you can install other popular content management systems (CMS) like Drupal, Joomla, run an e-commerce store, etc.

Bluehost also includes access to a Content Delivery Network (CDN). What these networks provide is hosting for your images and files. These offload work from your website servers and deliver them faster to website visitors around the world to ensure that your website loads quickly when visited. This is great for SEO and will help with your website rankings.

Officially Recommended by WordPress.org

WordPress is the most widely used website platform on the market. They recommend three hosting partners to use with a WordPress site. They are:

Any web hosting provider can be used to create a WordPress site, but wouldn’t you want to be hosted by an officially recommended hosting provider for guaranteed reliability? It’s good to go with the best and in this Bluehost review, it seems that the answer is clear. Which host would you choose out of these three?

Bluehost Review: WordPress.org Officially Recommends Bluehost
WordPress.Org officially recommends Bluehost as a web host provider.

Great for Beginners

Bluehost has a control panel (cPanel) that makes it extremely easy to use. You just need to point and click in most cases to get things done. There are also features that are available for power users that are more advanced. They make it really easy to install WordPress and start it up in minutes.

Bluehost also provides a website builder tool that allows you to customize templates for your website with drag and drop features.

Awesome 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Many web hosting providers provide better deals with prepayment of a few months to a year to several years at a time. Bluehost has an awesome 30-day money-back guarantee on their plans. This allows you to conduct your own bluehost review of their service to see if its the perfect fit for your needs. If at all you’re not satisfied, you can simply ask for a refund.

There are a few terms that you’ll want to pay attention to as there’s always a catch. Yup, even for Bluehost. This wouldn’t be a transparent Bluehost review if I didn’t mention this!

  • Products like domains or other add-ons are not covered. The refund only covers the web hosting cost.
  • A $15.99 fee will be deducted if you received a free domain name with your web hosting plan purchase.
  • Refunds after 30 days won’t be refunded, but it’s fully transparent and clear that the 30 days is the time limit.

When purchasing a Bluehost web hosting plan, be sure to keep the above in mind.

Spectacular Customer Support

Bluehost is amazing when it comes to customer support. They have a knowledge base, live chat, e-mail ticket support, and phone support. All of the agents have great English and you can chat with them within two minutes. It’s a painless experience and the agents genuinely care to fix your problems. I’ve always had a great experience with the customer support agents at Bluehost. If you aren’t tech-savvy they do their best to accommodate you. Even better, they always ask you for your credentials which shows that security is a priority for them.

Cons of Bluehost Hosting

No matter which web host you choose, there will be tradeoffs. There are two areas that you may consider to be cons when using Bluehost web hosting. Keep in mind that these cons may be prevalent with other web hosting providers as well.

Bluehost Plans
Bluehost Plans: It’s better to prepay to get better deals.

When purchasing a web hosting plan, it’s best to prepay for a longer period of time upfront. As you can see above, the 36-month price is the best deal. Keep in mind that after your introductory period, you’ll be paying higher renewal rates. These higher rates are the “Normal” rates which can range between $7.99-$8.99 a month for the most basic shared plan depending on how long you prepay.

Site Migrations aren’t Free

Most web hosting providers will migrates your existing website over to their service at no cost to you. Bluehost however, doesn’t do free site migrations. In fact, they have a one-time fee of $149.99 that includes 5 websites, 20 e-mail accounts, and your website’s database files. So this is definitely a con to consider. You can bypass this by simply creating a new site with them and using site migrations plugins with WordPress (Advanced Users).

Bluehost Plans

Bluehost has three plans for you to choose from with the Bluehost Basic Plan costing $3.95 a month.

The Plus plan costs $5.95 per month which is a dollar less than the Choice Plus plan of $6.95 a month for unlimited websites, SSD Storage, and bandwidth. You’re allowed to manage unlimited domains, parked domains, and subdomains on these plans as well.

There are many web hosting types to choose from according to your needs. There’s VPS, cloud, and dedicated data centers.

Summary of Bluehost

Free domain: Free for the first year and renews at $15.99 after 1 year.

Easy Sign-up: Two-Page Sign-up Process

Payment Methods: Major Credit Cards are accepted as well as Paypal

Hidden Fees & Clauses: Domain names aren’t refunded. Renewal rates for both domains and hosting increase upon renewal.

Upsells: Common in his industry and there are upsells with Bluehost for additional features or better hosting types.

Activating Accounts: Instant Activation but there is delayed activation if user information is suspicious or fraud is suspected.

Control Panel and Dashboard Experience: Simple and user-friendly Cpanel included. If you were to do this by yourself with Plesk, you could spend anywhere between $7.33-$18.33 a month. Bluehost handles all the advanced background stuff for you so it’s one less thing you have to worry about!

Installation of Applications and CMS (WordPress, Joomla, etc.): Bluehost’s Mojo Marketplace makes it super easy to install applications and platforms for your website.

Bluehost Review: Highly Recommended!

I would highly recommend Bluehost in this Bluehost Review. It’s officially recommended by WordPress.org and has outstanding uptime, security features, and outstanding pricing. Their customer service is great and their money-back guarantee ensures that you’ll have peace of mind. While there are some cons to consider like renewal rates and charging for site migration, overall they deliver a strong service and outstanding value. I’ve used various webhosting providers such as hostgator and siteground and Bluehost is by far my favorite! I hope this bluehost review has helped you! Good luck with making a website!
